Welcome Lauren DeVillier – Our New CEO!

We’re excited to share some big news: Lauren DeVillier will be joining Exceptional Minds as our new Chief Executive Officer, officially stepping into the role on July 14.

Lauren brings with her more than two decades of experience in media and entertainment, with senior leadership roles at companies like Disney, Yahoo!, Warner/Discovery, and Microsoft. Most recently, she co-founded and served as CEO of Struum, a streaming startup that reimagined how audiences discover and access content.

At Exceptional Minds, Lauren will oversee both the Academy and Studios, guiding our work in VFX, animation, and emerging areas like AI and gaming. These industries are evolving fast—and so are the opportunities for our artists. Lauren’s leadership will help us stay ahead of the curve, opening new doors for creative talent on the spectrum.

Beyond her impressive career, what really resonated with us—and with our Board—was Lauren’s genuine connection to our mission and the kind of thoughtful, forward-thinking leadership she brings. As Board Chair Patricia Turney shared:

“Exceptional Minds is entering a bold new era—one defined by strategic leadership, expanding industry relevance, and deepened commitment to our mission. With Lauren’s appointment, we’re bringing in a leader whose expertise spans media, technology, and creative innovation. Her vision will further position our Academy students and alumni for meaningful careers in the digital arts and the rapidly evolving creative economy.”

Lauren also shared a few words about what drew her to Exceptional Minds:

“Neurodiversity fuels creativity, innovation, and authenticity—and Exceptional Minds proves that every day. This organization stands at the intersection of purpose and possibility, preparing autistic talent to thrive in the industries shaping our future. I see a powerful path forward: expanding into AI, gaming, and the creator economy, where our artists won’t just participate—they’ll lead. I’m honored to help shape its next chapter. I couldn’t imagine a mission more aligned with my values and vision.”

Lauren has led digital transformation initiatives at major companies, including driving the digital evolution of Disney’s kids’ TV division and playing a key role in launching streaming platforms at Discovery.

She’s long been a champion for access and inclusion in the arts. She also serves on the boards of Inner-City Arts and the Kennedy Center’s Access/VSA Advisory Board.

We’re looking ahead with energy and optimism as Lauren steps into this role. Her experience and perspective arrive at just the right moment as we continue building inclusive, sustainable career paths for autistic artists in entertainment—and beyond.
