Session 1- Course Description

2D Animation

Design and animate characters and environments using Adobe Animate software. Students can work on personal animation projects and shorts in a collaborative environment. This very popular class gives students an overview of the Animate software and the animation process. This class can be taken multiple times. Groups are divided by interest and skill level.

Green Screen and Keyframing

Using Adobe After Effects, students will learn how to create and edit their own shorts with amazing animated graphics and compositing effects. This workshop is designed to give students exposure to various techniques in visual effects and motion graphics, including keyframing and green screen compositing. Students will complete the workshop with dynamic sequences like the ones seen in commercials, shows, movies, and social media.

3D: Intro to Modeling

Students will be introduced to the 3D production workflow using Autodesk Maya. They will create simple 3D models manipulating faces, edges, and points. Students will be able to alter basic shapes to create detailed models.

Acting for Animation

Take your animation to the next level by learning how to apply weight, movement and acting to your animations. Learn how to film reference and how to apply line of action into your animated work. Characters will then be placed in a motion graphics environment to give their piece the feel of a real commercial or infographic.

3D: Intro into Animation

Students will animate fun objects and characters using existing rigs in Autodesk Maya. They will learn to control and manipulate controllers within the 3D system, and add keyframing across the timeline. Using the traditional principles of animation, students will bring their characters to life.

Digital Painting & Environments

In this workshop, students will explore painting techniques in Photoshop to create cartoon and fantasy backgrounds using value maps and blending techniques to create dynamic lighting and shadow effects. Students will produce a series of paintings exploring potential compositions using the Elements and Principles of design. The sky’s the limit!
